Lower School Music Teacher

Position Purpose:

Creates an engaging and inclusive PK-4 music learning environment that invites students to explore, create, and perform through singing, movement, play, and active listening. This role designs and delivers a developmentally responsive music curriculum grounded in early childhood pedagogy, emphasizing routine, repetition, and joyful exploration to build foundational musical skills and support collaborative ensemble experiences aligned with schoolwide curricular goals. As a passionate advocate for music education, the educator collaborates with faculty, colleagues, and families to integrate music across curricula and support students’ academic and social-emotional growth while advancing the school’s mission and values. This position begins on August 28, 2026.

I. Essential Functions:
– Leads PK-4 music instruction, including general music, choral singing, and age-appropriate instrumental practice.
– Coordinates planning, organization, and execution of concerts, assemblies, and other school-wide music events.
– Manages music inventory, instruments, and classroom spaces to ensure safe, organized, and effective learning environments.
– Incorporates innovative tools and methods in music instruction and maintains professional expertise through ongoing development.
– Creates a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students and establishes developmentally appropriate routines.
– Maintains regularly scheduled school hours and participates in school events, meetings, and professional responsibilities as required.
– Performs additional faculty duties as assigned and writes bi-annual narrative reports on student progress.

II. Student Instruction:
– Designs, adapts, and evaluates curriculum in collaboration with colleagues and administrators, differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
– Draws on pedagogical approaches such as Orff Schulwerk to support elemental music-making through movement, speech, percussion, and improvisation.
– Integrates culturally diverse music literature, including works by non-Western and underrepresented composers, while fostering an inclusive classroom community.
– Collaborates with homeroom teachers to integrate music into cross-curricular learning, creating meaningful connections across the curriculum.
– Integrates the study of a stage musical into the classroom curriculum, culminating in a developmentally appropriate concert-style performance.
– Facilitates student rehearsals and performances, including in-class presentations, assemblies, annual Lower School concerts, and community engagement activities.
– Plays and leads music for weekly Lower School assemblies, inviting students into communal singing and active music-making that supports school traditions and shared experiences.
– Evaluates student progress through multiple measures and tailors instruction to individual learning needs.
– Partners with families, faculty, and administrators to support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth.
– Maintains professional expertise through ongoing development, contributing to the professional community and collaborative culture of the division.

III. Professional Conduct:
– Builds and maintains collaborative working relationships with colleagues and administration.
– Contributes positively to the culture of the division and engages in the broader life of the school through community events, faculty initiatives, and collaborative projects.
– Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth.

IV. Any Other Duties Assigned by Head of Lower School

Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a closely related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
– Demonstrated musicianship across multiple areas, including general music, vocal music, piano/keyboard proficiency, and age-appropriate instrumental instruction.
– Experience leading group singing, including assemblies, concerts, and classroom performances.
– Strong knowledge of music pedagogy and developmentally appropriate instructional practices for Lower School students, including experiential approaches such as Orff-inspired or play-based methods.
– Experience working with young children and a clear understanding of child development.
– Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-based environment with flexibility and professionalism.
– Commitment to cultural competency and to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
– Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
– Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
– Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
– Able to move around a classroom and other school environments.
– Able to regularly use close and distance vision.
– Turn, bend, reach, and occasionally climb.
– Work in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment.

Video and Music Production Teacher

Position Purpose

The Video and Music Production Teacher provides leadership and guidance in the adoption of digital communications within the SCH community. Part visual storyteller, songwriter, digital media explorer, and cheerleader, this person will inspire students to communicate in new and innovative ways. The ideal candidate is a person who enjoys learning new technologies and fostering creative thought through individual projects. Additionally, as a member of the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership team, this person will work to inspire students to be makers, problem solvers, and creative thinkers. This position will start in late August 2026.

Essential Functions
I. Middle School
Teaches both a 5th-grade and a 6th-grade course aligned with the New Media and CEL skills progression. These hands-on, project-based courses will teach students the foundations of creative problem solving, storytelling, and design.
Supervises a Middle School Advisory.
II. Upper School
Curriculum design and instruction for two New Media Arts electives – Songwriting and Video Production.
New Media Studio instructor for the CEL Capstone – a semester-long, self-designed project experience for sophomore students.
Oversees and assists with in-house production projects, including video production and studio audio recording for SCH Academy Performing Arts groups.

Qualifications
I. Technical Abilities
Knowledge of software that facilitates learning, which may include:
Adobe Creative Suite, with particular experience in the following tools:
DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro for video editing Premiere Pro for video editing
After Effects for special effects and motion graphics
Adobe XD for prototyping
Logic Pro or Pro Tools
Experience running a recording studio – live music recording, podcasts, and post-production.
Knowledge of advancing technologies, including but not limited to AI, gaming, XR, and other interactive media.
Ability to plan and execute projects and experience with teaching the Design Thinking process.
Manage and maintain the Vidcast and Jamie Bell Recording Studio, overseeing equipment needs, inventory management, and coordinating maintenance when necessary.
Support podcast production, including recording and coordinating the use of the facilities.

II. Teaching Capacities
Be able to use a studio approach to teach creative media production.
Experience teaching with an array of technology, which may include:
Lighting instruments
Green screen & VFX
Semi-pro camera operation
Audio Production & Recording recording

III. Other Necessary Qualifications
Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members with a continuous focus on healthy relationship building.
Demonstrated deep understanding of cultural competency skills and enthusiasm for issues of diversity, inclusivity, and multiculturalism.
Flexible and adaptable – able to juggle multiple projects across disciplines according to student interest and ability.
Strong collaborative worker – who can provide technical guidance and support when asked by other members of the SCH community.
Ability to troubleshoot and maintain technology and recording studio.
Excellent communication, both oral and written.
Ability to develop and implement curriculum, assessments, and utilize teaching methodologies/best practices.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to provide a supportive, caring, and positive environment for students.
Ability to maintain classroom discipline.
Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
Comfortable with a team-based work structure.
Demonstrates initiative, is conscientious, and provides complete follow-through on areas of responsibility.
At a minimum, a bachelor’s degree in a New Media-related field.
At least two (2) years of experience teaching New Media or a related field.
Must have a passion for new possibilities and be a self-starter.
