PMEA is pleased to once again sponsor a composition program for PMEA members and their students in conjunction with the 2025 PMEA Annual In-service Conference, April 10-12 at the Kalahari Resort & Convention Center in the Poconos. There are four categories for students (ES, MS, HS & PCMEA), two categories for members and an open track for all ages. Selected compositions will be featured during the annual conference.
The purpose of the composition program is to promote and encourage composers of all ages to create music and to explore the way that sounds are put together in an appropriate way. Many future composers are today’s music students and PMEA members, and we are striving to encourage everyone to try their hand at composing.
The “window of opportunity” to complete the Application and submit your composition online will be from Monday, September 16 to Wednesday (11:59 p.m.), December 4. All entries must be submitted by December 4, 2024.
All PMEA members and/or their students are encouraged to submit compositions. *Please note the following:
- Previous composition awardees may not submit a composition in the same genre in which they were recognized in consecutive years, however a composition in a different genre may be submitted
- A composer may submit multiple compositions, however each one must be written for a different ensemble/genre type. A separate application is required for each composition submitted.
Requirements by Composition Program Level:
- Elementary School (grades K-5)
- Middle School (grades 6-8)
- High School (grades 9-12)
- Collegiate/PCMEA Member
- PMEA Member Written for ES/MS Ensembles
- PMEA Member
- Open Track
