To everyone who participated in the 2018-19 PMEA Composition Program. Information on the 2019-20 program, held in conjunction with the 2020 PMEA Annual Conference, April 23-25 at Kalahari Resorts in the Poconos, will be available soon.
2019 PMEA Annual Composition Program Wrap-up
More than 35 entries were received with six compositions being showcased at the 2019 PMEA/NAfME Eastern Conference in Pittsburgh.
Alex Lauver from Gill Hall Elementary School, Rie Lauver, sponsoring director, was this year’s awardee in the elementary school category. His piece Fireworks was written for cello and piano. Two compositions were selected from the high school level category: Michael Kronengold from Owen J. Roberts High School, Todd Mengel, sponsoring director, wrote Symphony No. 3, Mvt 1 for orchestra and Maire Pasquinelli from Canon-McMillan High School, Maggie Sisson, sponsoring director, wrote a choral piece entitled Ave Maria. David Marques from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Craig Denison, sponsoring director, was recognized for the PCMEA level with his choral piece entitled Waterfall. Two PMEA members were recognized for their compositions: Philip Parlock from Forest Hills Junior/Senior High School wrote a choral piece entitled Final Days and Jeff Herwig from Mercer Area Middle School/High School wrote a composition for band, The Bridge.
Congratulations to each of these composers as well as all of the other composers who submitted entries this year. Thank you to our judges for this year: Doug Bolasky, James Colonna, Johannes Dietrich, Todd Goodman, Jonny Priano and Travis Weller. Thank you to the Grove City College Orchestra and Jeffrey Tedford for providing performers for the string pieces. Thank you also to the NAfME Eastern Division Directors Academy Choir for their performance of the Choral pieces.
