Careers in the Music Products Industry

The presentation will review activities, educational requirements, and promotional opportunities for two positions in school music retail : Instrument Repair and Retail Sales.

In this presentation I will provide an overview of the school music business model and elaborate on two specific positions, instrument repair and retail sales. I will provide educational requirements, market / promotional opportunities, and an overview of each job.

Joel is the President and owner of Menchey Music Service, an 8 store school service and keyboard music dealer headquartered in Hanover, Pennsylvania, and partner in Performance Play Music School, a performance based music school based in Aurora, CO.  Prior to his endeavors in the music products / services industry, Joel spent 5 years as a Financial Analyst for a media / manufacturing company Susquehanna Pfaltzgraff Co.  Joel is a graduate of Temple University where he earned a BBA in Finance and Business Management.  In addition to his professional responsibilities, Joel is a Past President of both RPMDA and NASMD and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the NAMM Board of Directors. Joel has also served on the boards of directors of the York County Chapter of the United Way and the Appell Center for the Performing Arts.  Joel lives with his wife Lara in York, Pennsylvania and has two adult children, Jake and Ryan.
