Details concerning the scholarship:

 

  1. $500 to be awarded to the most deserving high school musician, as selected by the District 6 executive committee.
  2. Money will be sent directly the recipient’s parents, who will provide proof of payment to the college or university. This proof will be sent to the district 6 secretary or treasurer.
  3. The scholarship will be presented to the winner at the home school during an appropriate ceremony, if possible.
  4. A plaque or similar recognition will also be given to the recipient.

Candidates:

  1. Must be planning a career in music education.
  2. Must participate in one of the four district 6 festivals.
  3. Must be a senior currently enrolled in a high school in district 6.
  4. Home school director must be a current PMEA member.

Application process:

  1. Applications will be included in each fall newsletter.
  2. Completed applications will be returned to the chairperson of the district 6 curriculum/instruction committee.
  3. Application deadline is April 1 of the current school year.
  4. Applications must include all of the following five items: Completed application form, recommendation of the high school principal, recommendation of the high school director, high school transcript, verification of college application for the study of music education from the high school guidance counselor.

Election process:

1.      Interviews of each candidate will be conducted by the executive board of district 6 at its spring meeting, the first Sunday in May. Candidates must attend this interview in order to be considered for the scholarship.

  1. At this meeting, all facets of the application and interview will be considered and a recipient chosen.
  2. Members of the executive committee having their own students as applicants will NOT participate in the selection process.
  3. District 6 reserves the right to withhold the scholarship if none of the candidates meet established criteria.
