PMEA District Goals 2006-2007

  • Build on last year's successful Multi-Cultural workshop and offer another such experience for our Elementary and Middle School members.

  • Continue to improve our District 4 website.

  • Continue our efforts in updating our membership database.

  • Encourage all members to join Rich Victor's Advocacy Network

  • Encourage all music booster organizations within our boundaries to also join the Advocacy Network

  • Improve our newsletter.  These were some of the suggestions:
    Articles from the Advocacy Network
Invite College Members to submit articles of interest
Publish both email and snail mail versions
    Find a newsletter editor
    Send newsletters to administrators
Consider a policy change at our fall meeting in which all 2nd year band students be offered the opportunity to participate in Bandfest.

C/I Goals

  • Host a Winter Workshop sometime in February designed for Elementary and Middle School teachers.  This will hopefully be partnered with the PSU PCMEA Chapter.  All new District 4 teachers will receive invitations to attend.

  • Survey all District 4 School Music Programs to create a network of resources/clinics/information, etc. that will be of benefit to other music programs throughout District 4 and the state.  Schools will be asked to identify strengths, weaknesses, short-term and long-term goals, as well as areas that they feel they are particularly strong.  This information will be compiled, published, and promoted on the District 4 website.  It will serve as a resource for schools or individual teachers to go to for assistance in a particular area or a place where they can share their expertise.

PMEA District 4 Goals 2004-2005

Legislative Goals

  • Educate all members regarding who their state and federal politicians are and where each of them stands on educational issues.
  • Promote the PMEA Advocacy Network to all District 4 members and strongly encourage them to send letters and become proactive with educational reform.
  • D4 Executive Board will invite politicians to a luncheon/meeting to discuss the impact of NCLB and the referendum legislation-possibly even ask local politicians to speak at concerts, etc.

Ongoing Goals

  • Update and maintain the D4 Membership Directory and the D4 Website.
  • Investigate ways to involve students who are not part of the "festival" process in PMEA activities-composition contests, alternative ensembles, piano programs, etc.
  • Continue to encourage retired members in District 4 to become and/or remain active with music making through participation in PMEA activities.
  • Promote PMEA as a partner for County and other festivals in D4 to provide Act 48 hours, insurance coverage, professional contracts (guest conductor, recording, etc.), clinician fees, etc.
